Below is an account of unit types specific to the Kallean empire that are known to be commonly deployed outside of the Kallean's native realm aside from the standard infantry and cavalry. Units are structured by multiples of 10 with 10 being the smallest squad size unless deployed as 'exploratory forces' in which case individual unit size is listed next to each name.
Kallean Dragon Flyer / Units size: 12
A staple since the formation wars, the dragon flyer is as old as the army itself, though it still outperforms every alternative tried to date. Not requiring much in the way of food and incredibly fast even by comparison to their small dragon fly cousins the Dragon flyer or 'Flyer' as the Kalleans call them sports a blade like appendage on its tail capable of sweeping enemy infantry or knocking them off of siege units during a strafing run. The combination of Dragon Flyer infantry and the Infantry Siege charges of which a pouch allows the flyer to carry up to 15 has allowed the Kalleans to avoid costly airship designs given a swarm of these units can easily lay waste to an airship fleet and generally take few losses doing so due to their speed an agility. They are also commonly deployed as 'dive bombers' of sorts on the battle field as well as the most common forward scout / observer unit in the Empire.
Kallean Scout Runner / Unit size: 6
A Tekradon trained to allow a rider, the Kallean Scout Runner as it is called is an ideal unit where Dragon Flyers are unavailable, able to run up to 45 mph for sustained periods of time they excel at acting as a vanguard for a larger ground force. While not incredibly armored they have formidable claws and teeth and their leap allows them to devastate most light to medium infantry in a direct confrontation. The most common armament of the rider is the main battle bow with a few siege charges at times. Their quick speed has also caused them to become a favorite in hit and run style attacks on enemy convoys and supply lines.
Mirelian Venom Whip / Unit size: 8
It is easy to see why after the humans of the Mirelian Realm had been conquered the empire was quick to add this unit to the imperial ranks. Each capable of moving up to 30 mph across open terrain and being highly agile in the area of navigating rugged terrain they made the ideal fast attack cavalry. Perhaps the most attractive faucet of this odd creature for military purposes though is the stinger on its tail, capable of killing a man in under a minute and larger beasts in a matter of minutes it is a common practice of these units to quickly rush an enemy formation, stinging as many enemy combatants as possible while the rider uses a battle bow before withdrawing and allowing the venom to act. Despite their appearance outside of combat like they are quite docile, second only to the dragon flyer in temperament towards its handlers.
Pultean Bog Rider / Unit size: 3
As effective as it is disgusting, No Kallean wants the posting of being assigned to watch to southern marshes, given the only cavalry unit capable of navigating the marshes in a hurry is the giant fleas imported from the Pultean Realm. While these creatures are a stomach turning thought to ride for any rider in the imperial army their effectiveness is unmatched at marshland hit and run, given they can leap in, strike a target and leap out most of the time before the enemy can even react. Despite this obvious combat advantage for other strategic hit and runs and thick exoskeleton they are an extremely rare sight outside of the bog lands due to the stigma that comes with being a rider. This unit's strategic value is often times overlooked and if it had not been for the Pultean's using them to a devastating end against Kallean cavalry during the Pultean war they probably would of never won council approval for combat use, even then it took heavy petitioning by the Field Matriarchs who saw them in action to get them approved. The typical armament of a rider is a battle bow, given the up and down jarring would potentially set off an Infantry charge if not properly secured...In addition to the flea's bite that is...
Kallean Behemoth / Unit Size: 5
If ever a hole in an enemy line needed to be created this would be the unit to do it. Capable of a spine crushing goring combined with a bite pressure that can crumble most enemy siege units it is easy to see why the Kallean Behemoth is the unit of choice for heavy assault and escorting siege units. Heavily armored naturally with an ultra thick hide and skull capable of acting as a living battering ram the only real spot for a saddle is along the top of the neck. Highly intelligent these creatures are also capable of breathing under water and commonly are sent without rider to plant ambushes along river crossings, striking much like a crocodile would a prey animal at passing convoys. A native of the Kalllean home realm the sight of these fearsome beasts on the battlefield has many times caused enemy formations to route. Typical armaments for the rider are both battle bows and infantry siege charges.
Praxan Tortoise Artillery / Unit size: 1 / Gun Crew: 4
Capable of launching a massive shell these mighty land tortoises were originally from the Praxan Realm, in fact they are the inhabitants of the realm. Unlike many other units these naturally armored behemoths willingly joined the empire, seeing the advantage it would mean for their numbers they are part of the original pact that formed the empire. So heavy their walk can be heard there is not much that can penetrate their thick hide, and even less their dense shell. While traditionally slower than most other units they are capable of a brief but highly devastating charge when cornered. Usually used to launch a massive charge similar to the infantry charges these units are most commonly used as long range artillery for the empire when supported by an artillery crew. They are almost always escorted by a force of behemoth cavalry on a 5:1 ratio.
Mirelian Razorback / Unit Size: 5
As much a meat source as it is a strategic unit, the Mirelian razorback is a staple of choice for moving heavy siege equipment, mobile command centers and almost anything else that needs pulled. They can also be very dangerous on their own when turned loose into a battle zone. Typically a rather docile animal despite its name, the tails usually have burning brush attached when they are turned loose on an enemy formation. In very rare instances they have been used as heavy cavalry in place of Behemoth cavalry though their primary reason for adoption into the army from the Mirelian realm aside from transportation of heavy equipment is the fact they make an ideal food source due to their immense muscle size and docile nature, allowing them to be easily herded with any large force requiring its own food supply.
Gnolam Husnock / Unit size: 3
Used as a substitute for Praxan artillery, these creatures were brought from captured Gnolam units during the Gnolam War. Their brutal nature leads them to have an almost natural lust for battle and at times leads them to devour their own crews when not properly trained. Their armor though and combative nature make them a decent substitute though for the Mirellian razorback when a siege unit needs to be transported through harsher terrain. Usually found distasteful by most Kallean soldiers due to their nature, they have earned respect given if one can get past their combative nature towards their crews the creature forms a bond with its crew, defending them to the death. Primarily bred in the Mirelian realm, they have become somewhat of a pest in the wilds of Mirelia & Katria due to livestock escaping.
Kallean Golems / Unit Size: 1
A relic from another time the Kallean golem is a unit that has fallen nearly out of service in the military due to the time it takes to create, the ready availability of alternatives, and the fact they cannot be repaired once damaged. They now serve the empire primarily in constructive purposes, allowing elaborate structures to be created without the risk usually posed to the workers creating such a structure. They come in three sizes, a tan that was used as a war golem, a medium that is used in most construction applications, and a massive citadel golem that while only a handful exist, are used as massive monuments at the entrances to Kallean territory given they can double as sentries against an invading army.
